BERSERI- Final Project
The time has finally come where an entire month's hard work and effort is displayed and ready to submit as my final project. This project was fun, exciting, stressful, annoying, and insightful during different moments according to how the process was going.
The parts I enjoyed the most were the fashion show, photoshoots, and choosing the layout. However, I did not enjoy the editing process because Canva was very difficult at times and would constantly delete my progress. I also realize that the blogging is essential because it makes sure that a little bit gets done every week, but it was tedious at times, especially when it needed to be done after hours of editing.
Before beginning this process, I briefly mentioned that I could potentially see myself working for a magazine in the future, and this project reinforced that idea. Obviously, there is still a lot of improvement needed, and I'm aware that my project is not perfect, although I think I did a pretty good job, and I'm proud of it. I'll be discussing in greater detail the elements that I liked, and the ones I could improve on in my next blog post. BUT FOR NOW, HERE IS MY BABY:

Two Page Spread
My project is complete! I just need to revise it to make sure that everything is the way I want it to be. Let me mention how I decided to do my spread.
Since I knew I was going to be writing a lot of information on my article, I ended up taking up three pages. The first page was only one column, having the second half of the page be a model from the fashion show. The layout changed for the rest of my spread, where my article was divided into 3 columns, just like most fashion magazines.
My article can be divided into 3 parts: The Zoey Reva Collection, The Alice & Trixie Collection and the dupes. Along with these parts, I added corresponding images to the appropriate sections. This is how the labeling went:
The first image is part of the Zoey Reva collection and is one of my dupes, so I made sure to label it 1.
In the second page, I included 3 looks from the Zoey Reva collection, and for the outfit that was a dupe, I labeled it 2.
At the bottom of the second page I also included a picture of the fashion designer, so I wrote her name in the description.
Finally in my last page, I included 4 looks from the Alice and Trixie collection, and labeled my dupe as 3.
Overall, I'm happy with how my spread turned out because it's organized, easy to follow, and I think it looks aesthetically pleasing.

Why? Table of Contents
Let's talk about my table of contents. My table of contents takes up two pages, and is split in the middle by an ad (like most fashion magazines). The way I decided to split up my table of contents is by having the first page show the articles that are only featured in this issue, and have the second page include article topics that are seen in every issue. That's why the tittle of the articles in the first page matches the title of the issues more than the second page does. Here's how it turned out:
The topics I included for the "In this Issue" we're the ones that would be relevant for a spring magazine issue.
These were:
-The Underground Fashion Show
-Ways to relax during spring break
-Analysis of Fashion Weeks, which recently occured
-Makeup looks for any occasion
-A summer fitness routine
On the other hand, the topics on the "Montly Features" have a more general tittle because they deal with a lot of different topics dealing with the same theme. The stories I chose are similar to the ones I discussed in my earlier blogposts talking about my casestudies. These type of magazines focus on articles about fashion, beauty, health, global issues, women empowerment, self confidence, travel, and daily life. That's exactly what I wanted to reflect, by having articles deal with:
-Beaches to visit with friends
-Stories behind the Women's March
-Easy hairstyles to make
-How mornings affect the rest of your day
-How to boost self esteem
-Common makeup mistakes
I also included pictures "from the articles" in the table of contents and labeled them with their respective pages. I threw a few additional pictures because many of the magazines I looked at, did the same thing. Those additional pictures are a fashion mall, my friend Joulin modeling by the pool, shoes, and more makeup, all of which can be applied to my magazine genre.
I hope all these ideas easily stand out, because I'm pleased with the way my table of contents came out. Every single picture was photographed by me, and have been taken throughout the entire process of creating this project, since I always had a clear idea about the topics I wanted to discuss in my table of contents.

Front Cover and Ad
The searching is finally complete! I was able to acquire everything I was looking for in order to make my magazine. This is the order that things were addressed:
Tuesday:
My friend Joulin came over to work on my photo shoot for the perfume campaign that I have decided to place in between my table of contents. She came over at 3 o'clock and it took 2 hours to get ready to start taking pictures, so we were able to obtain that crisp afternoon sun for the images. I wanted to have a crazy photo shoot, like Vogue does, so I filled the background with a lot of unusual props to sell the idea that the perfume is "A scent that drives you mad".
This is what the final image came to look like:
Thursday:
I asked my friend Paula to be my model for the cover image, so she came over to do the shoot. Once again, it took forever for us to get ready, but it really paid off when we were taking pictures. I took a close up shot of her looking at the camera, with a bunch of trees and bushes in the background. I wanted to have a lot of green in the background because her eyes are blue, so I thought the two colors would compliment each other very well. The close up of a model's face for the front cover is also an element that is very common for women's magazines to have.
Friday:
Instead of physically looking for dupes, I started to search online for clothing similar to the ones I saw at the fashion show, and I have found the best results. They're all from Charlotte Rousse, H&M, and Forever 21, which are brands targeted towards my target audience. Unfortunately, I won't be able to display the clothing side by side as I will do in this post, but I will be able to discuss prices and similarities between the dupes and their originals.

Treasure Hunt
Today I was ready to work on the second part of my spread, finding the dupes. I went to Sawgrass Mills Mall with the images of last night on my phone, ready to start searching for clothes. I'll admit I thought the process was going to be hard, but I was wrong. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE! It was like Harry Potter searching for horocruxes, but without the magic. I went to Burlington Coat Factory, TJ Maxx, Charlotte Russe, Euro Now, and all of them proved to be a failure.
However, my prayers were finally answered when I went to Forever 21. I was able to find some dupes, but they weren't as close to the original as I wanted them to be. This is what I found:
First I found this white top that is exactly the same as the one from last night, and similar flowy, grey pants. This was probably a good match, except for the difference is skirt shade.
Next I found this white outfit that's kind of similar to one a model wore, but the original photo of the model is bad quality, so I don't think I'll be able to use it.
I couldn't find anymore complete outfits, but on the way back to my car, I was able to find a similar dress to the one at the show.
I have concluded that there were several errors in this whole operation:
-I was looking for too many outfits at the same time, instead of focusing on just one
-Did not have someone actually take a picture with clothes on
-Store was too big, so I did not look in detail
-I was being rushed by my parents
Now here's what I'm going to do in order to fix the problem:
-Pick 3/4 outfits that I want to look for, and focus on those
-Go to the mall with a friend and have her try on the clothes
-Actually take my time
I'm going to try to go to the mall on Tuesday, and I have photoshoots tomorrow and Thursday... I'm ready for a very busy week.

The Fashion Show
Why have I never been to a fashion show? This experience was amazing! The entire time I was there, I felt like an A-list celebrity because everything is made to feel like it's a big deal. Here's how my experience went down:
I arrived at 5 o'clock pm to Underground Lauderdale, and was told to wait at the reception until the fashion show started. Everyone around me was very well dressed, so I could immediately tell that this was a very formal, important, event. The first thing I noticed is that everything at the reception was complementary. I got home with so many free gifts! They gave us complementary water bottles (the expensive type of water) , two large bags of chocolate chip popcorn, three $20 Bloomingdales's gift cards, and a $75 Alice and Trixie gift card. Definitely a great bargain.
Throughout the Zoey Reva fashion show, I was able to take some decent pictures and videos of the models, since I was seated in the second row. The outfits were incredibly beautiful, elegant, and girly. They were decorated with lacing, bright colors, and flowery designs. I actually liked the clothing so much, that I went to go check out the small stand at the reception, but quickly changed my mind once I saw the price. Each article of clothing was at least $150, so I'll settle for finding a similar design at Forever 21. Regardless, it was still a fun experience to be able to witness models wearing the clothing down the runaway. This was the show finale:
As I was waiting for the next show to start, guess who I happen to run into? ZOEY REVA HERSELF! I was able to ask her a question about what inspired her collection, which I will quote in my two page spread. This is the video of me interviewing her:
Next came the Alice & Trixie fashion show, which I unfortunately did not get good seats to. However, I was able to take more pictures of the outfits, since I was able to fix my timing from last time. This collection had a combination of both colorful and plain fabrics, and was more mature than the other collection. Personally, I like the other collection better, but the clothing in this show was also gorgeous. This was the final number:
I'm so glad I stuck to my fashion show idea because I feel like it will be a very interesting spread. Now comes part two of the story: finding the dupes.
